Lincoln the SuperHero

When I heard that my husband was traveling to Washington, DC for business, my first thought was how educational. I pictured visiting the Smithsonians, the monuments -- soaking up history and giving my boys a real sense of patriotic pride. Then I remembered I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old. Although they are clearly genuis, both of them, this might be a trip to take 5 years later.

Fast forward to the Lincoln Memorial. The entire walk along the Reflecting Pool (where Jackson and Robert were fascinated by the baby ducks), I told them about Lincoln. How he stood up for what was right even though people didn't like him because of it. How he overcame hardship and personal tragedy. In fact, I told them, Lincoln was a REAL LIFE SUPERHERO.

We arrive at the Lincoln Memorial, climb the many steps up, and there he is. It's my first time to see it in person, and tears begin to form in my eyes. Jackson takes a long look and says MOMMY. How did Lincoln turn into stone? You're right, he is a REAL superhero.

The Best Part of Traveling With Children . . .

Is coming home to their toys! Everything old is new again. After our two week trip to LA, my boys can't be pulled away from their playroom today. Happily playing (and fighting, I do have boys you know) with their toys that two weeks ago were boring. I couldn't even get them away to break for lunch.

So now I have some peaceful time to catch up on laundry . . . or visit my favorite blogs. Wonder what the giveaway is this week on Rebecca's fun and free giveaways? Off to win :-)
